LEAD Center Offers Covey
Leadership Training |
| The LEAD Center is offering
two Covey Leadership programs this fall. The 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People addresses fundamental principles and practices to
improve your effectiveness at work, at home, and in other key
relationships. Throughout the program you’ll learn how to be more
proactive, develop a personal mission statement, plan around your
priorities, practice win-win communications, synergize with others, and
implement a plan of personal renewal. Principle Centered Leadership is
the application of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People at the
organizational level. Four roles of leadership are emphasized: Modeling,
Pathfinding, Aligning, and Empowering. During the program you’ll learn
how to better lead yourself and others to make better decisions guided
by correct principles that are in alignment with a shared vision. Dave
Pearce, a Covey certified trainer will facilitate each of these training
sessions. See the registration materials attached for more details. |
Instructional Leadership and
Superintendent Leadership Academy Scheduled |
| Instructional Leadership
and the Superintendent Leadership Academy have become LEAD Center
mainstays. Dr. Ed Porthan returns as facilitator of both of these
programs. Although Instructional Leadership is beginning its ninth year,
new elements are added to the program each year. The program now
includes information about brain research and the impact of these
findings on the teaching and learning process. A refresher course also
is offered for educational leaders who completed the first three phases
and want to renew and sharpen their instructional leadership skills. The
Superintendent Leadership Academy focuses on topics related to the
unique role of the school superintendent. Topics include strategic
planning, board relationships, personnel issues, and conflict
management, along with other current issues and topics. Registration
materials are attached. |

New Professional Development
Resources Available |
| Several new video titles
have been added to LEAD’s resource library since the last catalog was
published. New materials include the following: |
| Curriculum Mapping
From ASCD, this two-tape series shows how to create and use curriculum
maps. Tape 1, The Essentials of Mapping, explains how curriculum maps
work like road maps to show teachers where they are in a particular
scope and sequence, what their students have been learning, and where
their students need to be by the end of the unit or end of the year.
Tape 2, Putting Mapping to Work, explains and demonstrates the seven
phases of the curriculum-mapping process and offers teachers guidance in
developing advanced mapping skills. Materials include a facilitator
guide, including handouts and transparency masters for in-house
training. |
| Mentoring to Improve
Schools Produced by ASCD, this two-tape package outlines elements
of effective mentoring programs and practices. Tape 1 introduces the
various components of effective mentoring programs for new teachers and
administrators and explains how mentoring benefits all those involved as
well as the school or district. Tape 2 describes effective mentoring
strategies including how to build trusting relationships, identify
needs, set goals, and communicate effectively. Materials include a
facilitator guide, including handouts and transparency masters for
in-house training. |
